We cannot predict the future but we can plan for potential problems based on certain indicators. Due to the high water on our lake this spring, and even now our water level is more than 1 foot higher than most years, it appears that there is a good possibility that we will have high or even higher water in the spring of 2012. Now is the time to prepare, especially for Snowbirds before you leave for the winter.
If your waterfront property will be in jeopardy under high water circumstances, we have requested and received the availability of sand and sand bags for your use. The County has dumped a large pile of sand at the parking lot at the top of the boat launch. Free sand bags are now available in bundles of 100 at the Diamond Lake Fire Station on Highway 2. They are behind the red fire house under a tarp. We have been instructed to sign them out as we take them but if the sign up sheet is not there, please call the Fire Dist., Phone # at 447-5305 and leave your name, number of sand bags, the address where the sand bags will be used, and a return phone #.
DLIA has begun application for work to be done on the outlet to help in the prevention of high water but until the long procedure is complete, it might be a good idea to be prepared.
