Billing
System Updated at Water District
By
Vicki Hawkins, Office Manager
After many years
of postcard billings, Diamond Lake Water and Sewer District recently upgraded
to laser printed statements sent out in an envelope. The new billings provide
an opportunity to include important information including water-saving tips and
consumer confidence reports. Several postcards a month were "lost in the
mail" and complaints were also received concerning lack of privacy with
the open mailings. Return envelopes are not included since more than half pay
by coming into the office, dropping payments into the door slot or using
bank-issued checks.
On December 6,
Troy Tatge was hired as Maintenance Service Assistant. He is in the process of
being trained for Water and Sewer Treatment Operator certification.
A public hearing
was held at the office on December 27, 2006 requesting a rate increase of $1
each on water and sewer services - $32.50 for water and $17.50 for sewer
totaling $50 per month. Two customers attended and were in general agreement
that rates must be increased due to District overall insurance coverage rising
60% in 2006, increased fuel costs due to elevated gas prices including energy
surcharges on all deliveries, a 40% increase in employee health benefits,
higher postage and printing costs annually for the new statements.
If you have any
concerns or suggestions Commissioner meetings are the first and third Wednesday
of each month at 10:00 am in the District Conference Room. Commissioners for
the District are Ray King (’07), Dick Swan (’09) and Bob Graham (’11).
Office hours are
Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Maintenance Personnel are available seven days a week from 8:00 am to
4:30 pm or for after-hour emergencies call Buck Cole at 671-1387 or Troy Tatge
at 671-6960.
