Check List for Boat Safety.

The following items are requirements for motorboats and will be checked during a marine inspection.

1. Personal Flotation Devices for each person in the boat. Children 12 years of younger are required to wear this device on boats 19 feet or shorter, whenever a boat is underway.

2. Bell, Whistle, Horn – some sort of sound device.

3. Fire Extinguisher (Coast Guard Approved.)

4. Orange Flag, Flashlight, Marine Flares—approved visual distress signal for nighttime use.

5. Class I (throw-able type) flotation device

(Items that are not required but recommended are a knife or multi-tool, cell phones and oars.
