The President’s Message by
Tom Wimpy
The people around here can
really do some marvelous things. The
‘Clean-Up’ day was a huge success with over 50 people participating from the
shore side and a crew of 8 or 10 taking care of the lake side. There is a separate article detailing the
clean-up and I hope that future events like this can be continued in a
coordinated fashion. It is up to us to
take care of what we have. So, what do you really want to do or have done to
preserve the beauty of Diamond Lake? Please let us know, we can be contacted
through the website or via our contact information given in the
newsletter. We do need your input.
Sometimes what I think is not
what the majority think but I can usually live with the results. This is being used as a means of bringing
people together. I bring this up because
of the controversy around a “No Wake Zone” in the West Bay. The complete information is in a separate
article of this newsletter. Please take
the time to read it and respond. All
comments are welcome.
Also, by the time you are
reading this, the Fourth of July will have happened and should be a good time
for all with the boat parade and the fireworks.
I know I’m looking forward to it as I write this. As far as the milfoil, I believe we need some
volunteers to survey the lake and then work on the extraction barge. The barge has had several improvements since
last year including some additional flotation and soon will have a motor of its
own. We need to stay on top of this
problem because the milfoil is NOT eradicated; it is just being controlled at
this point in time. It was good have
some plant identification at the social/BBQ in addition to the other
environmental and safety displays.
Hopefully those that attended walked away with some new knowledge.
One final note as the summer
rolls in, please boat safe and be responsible.
I stumped the board members last month when I asked who was responsible
for damage if a boat wave washed a camera off a dock. Do you know the answer??? Enjoy the summer and I’ll see some of you at
the Annual Meeting August 18.
