EDUCATIONAL SOCIAL EVENT:

WRITTEN BY: Venita Dupree, sister of Audrey Hunt and Britta Hulbert.

I am not personally a resident of Diamond Lake, but I feel loyalty through my family members that have been a big part of the lake for years.

Early Saturday morning friends and neighbors gathered at Southshore Store to organize and begin the second annual cleanup.  We heard that 65 members were reported helping with this endeavor. A smaller group began on Friday to clean the wetland area. See the picture

Getting up early Saturday morning, Britta and I  found  John Hernandez already up at the Quonset Hut getting all the tables  and chairs out for us to start setting up. The barbecue  grill was provided by John Harkness and both Johns were the “chefs of the day. “

The BBQ was a huge success with about 100 people in attendance.  The food was great, but it was the people that made it fun. Nametags were used to put faces with names. There was great information for folks to learn about. Tables were set up for the Dept of Ecology, Sheriffs Department with literature on  boating rules, Fire District #3 and of course Milfoil identification along with our Milfoil Barge.  The volunteers had lots of really good information.  We certainly thank them for being there.

Later in the day, a hike was held at Camp Cowles. WOW! Thank you, Ranger Jack for leading the hike and all  of your wonderful stories. Seeing the large Ponderosa Pine and the beaver ponds was a highlight of the hike.  See pictures

I am looking forward to next year’s events. See you there!
