History of Association |
|---|
The Diamond Lake Improvement Association is a volunteer association. Although unclear as to the exact year that the Association was formed, an article in the Newport Miner dated July 28, 1935, announced the meeting of the Diamond Lake Improvement Club at the Camp Diamond Pavilion. Membership was 63. The new president was S. L. Conrod. Discussion was held on many of the same issues we are facing today, drainage through the outlet to the lake, water rights on the lake, fishing conditions, and speed boat nuisance.
Incorporation proceedings were begun at the August 27, 1954 meeting. By 1959, the Diamond Lake Improvement Club was called the Diamond Lake Improvement Association and dues were $3. The Diamond Lake Gazette of August 10, 1964 announced the Annual Meeting on August 16th at Bushby’s Resort which included a potluck.
Over the years the Association has been involved in a variety of issues, including beavers, lake pollution, milfoil, and boating laws. In 1973, the issue of leasing the second class shorelines on lakes in Washington State became a big issue for the Association. The Association also has monitored past proposed developments which would impact the lake. Our mission today is as strong as it was nearly 80 years ago:
To Protect & Preserve the Water, & Enhance the Quality of Life on Diamond Lake through Planning, Visionary Leadership, & Dedicated volunteers for the Benefit of Current and Future Generations.
